Tokyo, June 10 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 stock average temporarily plunged more than 1,600 points in afternoon trading on Wednesday. At 1:48 p.m., the index of 225 selected issues listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s top-tier Prime section dropped 1,638.86 points, or 2.51 pct, from the previous day to 63,777.77. The plunge reflected selling in some artificial intelligence- and semiconductor-related stocks, tracking declines in their U.S. counterparts on Tuesday as well as uncertainty over the situation in the Middle East.
