North Korea, ‘we will never give up nuclear, it is a sovereign right’

(Adnkronos) – “There will never be any denuclearization of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.” This was stated by a spokesman for the North Korean Foreign Ministry, firmly rejecting the joint statement of the Quad – the security forum that brings together Australia, the United States, India and Japan – and accusing the group of questioning “the exercise of Pyongyang’s legitimate sovereign rights.” The North Korean representative, quoted by the state agency Kcna, added that, “whatever others say,” the country will continue to defend “its sovereign rights, security, interests and the right to state development.”

Pyongyang also called the Quad “a political and diplomatic tool serving the United States’ unipolar dominance strategy,” condemning what it called “hostile positions” towards North Korea. The reaction comes after the group’s foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi, during which the four countries reaffirmed their “commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea,” in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions, also urging compliance with international sanctions against Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile programs.
