(Adnkronos) – Belarus has released 25 detainees in exchange for the United States lifting some sanctions. This was announced to journalists in Minsk by US President Donald Trump’s envoy, John Coale. Among the released prisoners are human rights activists, political activists, journalists, and lawyers. “We have reached a provisional agreement and, as a sign of goodwill, Belarus will release 25 people. In return, the United States will lift sanctions against two companies,” the US envoy explained.

”Today 25 prisoners are free! President Trump’s commitment to direct diplomacy is bearing fruit. Thank you, President Lukashenko, for this step forward, and thank you to our friends in Lithuania for their support,” Coale wrote in a post on ‘X’. ”We will continue to improve relations between the United States and Belarus and are working to secure the release of more people as soon as possible. We are not done yet,” he concluded.
