(Adnkronos) – Italy’s government has congratulated Shia bloc candidate and businessman Ali al-Zaydi on his nomination by Iraq’s president as premier-designate tasked with forming a new government instead of a pro-Iranian rival, breaking a months-long deadlock.
“@ItalyinIraq extends its warmest congratulations to H.E. Ali al Zaydi for his appointment as Iraq’s prime minister designate,” the embassy wrote on X.
“It hopes for the swift formation of the new government to continue the fruitful collaboration between Italy and Iraq and to further strengthen the political-economic ties between our countries,” the post added.
