Downing Street on Pentagon email, Falklands sovereignty ‘belongs to us’

(Adnkronos) – Sovereignty over the Falkland Islands “belongs to the United Kingdom”. Downing Street made the clarification, following the news – which emerged through revelations related to an internal Pentagon email – according to which the United States could review its position on the British Overseas Territory. “The Falkland Islands – a Downing Street spokesperson quoted by the BBC said, responding to a request for comment – overwhelmingly voted to remain a UK Overseas Territory, and we have always supported the islanders’ right to self-determination and the fact that sovereignty belongs to the United Kingdom.”
