(Adnkronos) – Italy on Wednesday marked the anniversary of Israel’s independence in 1948 after the World War II Nazi Holocaust in which some six million Jews perished and a United Nations vote to partition Palestine.
“Born from the ashes of the Holocaust 78 years ago, the State of Israel proudly celebrates it’s independence day,” Italy’s embassy wrote on X.
“Israel has fought many battles and numerous enemies to survive, protect its Statehood and the freedom of its citizens,” read the post.
“It has been able in these 78 years to create a thriving liberal democracy, that guarantees freedom of religion, race and multiculturalism,” the post added.
“We send our warmest and heartfelt felicitations to the people of Israel on their day of independence,” the post continued.
“Yom Haatzmaout Sameach,” the post stated, referring to Israel’s national day commemorating the Israeli Declaration of Independence on 14 May, 1948.
This year, Yom Haatzmaout is observed from sunset on 21 April to nightfall on 22 April.
