Kim Jong-un back in public with his ‘beloved’ Ju-ae. Kim’s daughter strokes a cat in one of the latest photos released by Pyongyang media. Kim visited several businesses about to open in a neighborhood of the North Korean capital. Also a pet shop and a musical instrument store, a beauty salon. Among the photos showing Kim accompanied by his daughter, there is also one where he is seen holding a puppy.
The Hwasong district has been redeveloped with the construction of 40,000 housing units, the South Korean agency Yonhap reports, emphasizing that Kim’s wife, Ri Sol-ju, was also present with the father and daughter.
All this while discussions continue about the future succession in Pyongyang, with Kim appearing more and more often accompanied by his daughter, especially during official events. In November 2022, North Korean official media released images of Kim Ju-ae for the first time. Since then, she has accompanied her father to many official engagements, including missile tests, and was by his side during his trip to China in recent months. In January, Kim Ju-ae made her first known visit to the family mausoleum in Pyongyang.
Few details about her have ever been known. She is believed to have been born in 2013. It recently emerged that her real name might be “Kim Ju-hae”. In early February, South Korean intelligence, the NIS, announced that Kim Ju-ae had “entered” what was described as the “phase in which she will be designated for succession”.
Then, at the end of the month, rumors emerged that, according to the NIS, Kim Ju-ae already holds a military leadership role and has been entrusted with the strategic position of director-general of North Korea’s missile unit. And also from late February were the photos that went around the world of Kim and his daughter – possible future leader – wearing the same leather jacket, strictly black, side by side, during a military parade.
