Italy condoles Yemen on death of internationally recognised former president, Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi

(Adnkronos) – Italy’s envoy has condoled Yemen on the death of its internationally recognised president, Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, who died last week in Saudi Arabia after leading a fractured government for eight years, mostly from exile as his country descended into civil war famine, before stepping down in 2022.

“Italy’s ambassador (to Saudi Arabia) Carlo Baldocci signed the Book of Condolences upon the passing of Field Marshal Abd Rabbuh Mansur #Hadi, former Yemeni President, at @Yemenembassysa,” the embassy wrote Wednesday on X.

State-run Yemeni TV said Hadi died at his residence at age 80 on Thursday in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, but gave no further details.

Hadi fled to Saudi Arabia in 2015 as war broke out between Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who had forced the government from Yemen’s capital Sanaa, and a Saudi-led coalition.
