G-7 Leaders to Meet Online on Wednesday to Discuss Energy Supply

11 Marzo 2026

Tokyo, March 11 (Jiji Press)–The leaders of the Group of Seven major industrial economies will meet online on Wednesday to discuss the impact on the world economy and energy supply from the widening conflict in the Middle East, the Japanese government said. “Maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East and the international nuclear nonproliferation regime is extremely crucial to Japan,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara said at a press conference. “We’ll make every diplomatic effort in close coordination with the international community to calm things down early,” he said. The online meeting is expected to start at 11 p.m. Japan time. The effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran has sent crude oil prices soaring, raising concerns about the global economy and inflation. The G-7 finance and energy ministers have discussed a coordinated release of oil reserves. Such a release last took place following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
