Middle East: A total 2,500 Italians repatriated from Gulf on Friday

6 Marzo 2026

(Adnkronos) – A total of 2,500 Italians will “leave the Gulf today”, foreign minister Antonio Tajani said on Friday after online talks with ambassadors in Gulf countries, where thousands of Italians have been stranded amid the conflict with Iran which began when the United States and Israel began strikes on Iranian military sites last weekend.

“The situation in the United Arab Emirates is the most complicated in terms of numbers,” Tajani said.

“Some of the Italians are heading for Oman, while others are heading for Riyadh from Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait,” he went on.

“There will be further flights in the coming days,” Tajani added.

A special flight laid on by Italy’s flagship carrier ITA flight is leaving Oman on Friday, Tajani said, thanking ITA’s management for “responding positively to our appeal”.

A total 10,000 Italians have already been flown home, who were stuck in the region amidst a “dangerous, very complicated situation” after Gulf states closed their air space following Iranian drone and missile attacks, Tajani said earlier on Friday.
