Iran, GOP senators block measure to limit Trump’s war powers

5 Marzo 2026

(Adnkronos) – Republican senators have blocked a bipartisan measure that would have limited Donald Trump’s power to continue the war against Iran without congressional authorization, even, as is happening, with the extension of the conflict. The motion to transfer the resolution from the Foreign Affairs Committee was rejected with 47 votes in favor and 53 against. The only Republican to vote in favor was Rand Paul. The two moderates Susan Collins (Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) both voted to block the resolution, while introducing notes of caution on the operation.
