Italy repatriates 249 citizens from Oman as US-Israel-Iran conflict escalates

(Adnkronos) – A total 249 Italian citizens were set to arrive in Rome on Wednesday aboard two Oman Air flights from Muscat arranged by Italy’s foreign ministry, according to a statement. Some 2,500 Italians have returned to Italy from Abu Dhabi, Riyadh and Muscat “in recent hours” on commercial and private flights facilitated by the foreign ministry, according to the statement. 

 

Flights from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Muscat, Riyadh, the Maldives capital Male and from Colombo, Sri Lanka will repatriate other Italian citizens In the coming days, with the help of the foreign ministry and local diplomatic and consular offices, the statement added. 

Around 60,000 Italians were stranded in various countries after Gulf states closed their air space amid a widening conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran, which has responded to strikes since Saturday on its military sites by drone attacks targeting the US and its allies in the Middle East.
