(Adnkronos) – “The election of the new leader”, after the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei during US and Israeli operations in the Islamic Republic, “will not be” a procedure that will go on for “a long period”. This was stated by Ali Moallemi, who sits in the Assembly of Experts, in statements reported by the Iranian agency Isna.
The Assembly of Experts, with its 88 members, is at the center of the complex succession procedure. Last Sunday, in an interview with al-Jazeera, Iran’s chief diplomat, Abbas Araghchi, said that Iran could potentially choose Khamenei’s successor – killed last Saturday – in “one or two days”.
