Japan Monetary Base Down 11.1 Pct in Feb.

Tokyo, March 3 (Jiji Press)–The monetary base in Japan at the end of February declined 11.1 pct from a year earlier to 582,652.6 billion yen, the Bank of Japan said Tuesday. The combined balance of cash in circulation and financial institutions’ current account deposits at the central bank decreased for the 17th consecutive month. Current account deposits dropped 13.2 pct to 461,100.7 billion yen. The balance of banknotes in circulation was down 2.0 pct at 116,934.3 billion yen, and that of coins fell 1.2 pct to 4,617.6 billion yen. The average daily balance of the monetary base in February came to 580,932.6 billion yen, down 10.6 pct. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
