(Adnkronos) – Italy and Germany will always work together to achieve the “great European dream” of political integration, common defence and a social market economy “with populism as the driving force”, foreign minister Antonio Tajani wrote Friday on X.
“Thank you to my @CDU friends for inviting me to their congress in #Stuttgart,” Tajani said, referring to Germany’s ruling conservative Christian Democratic Union party lead by Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
“Shared values and identity. Populism as the driving force of Europe. Political integration, common defence, social market economy,” the post continued.
“Italy and Germany, always together to realise this great European dream,” the post concluded.
Tajani’s conservative Forza Italia party and the CDU are both member of the European People’s Party (EPP), the biggest centre-right pro-European political force in the European Parliament, the European Council and the European Commission.
