Japan Convenience Store Chain Lawson to Enter India

Tokyo, Feb. 18 (Jiji Press)–Japanese convenience store chain Lawson Inc. will expand into India, seeing high growth potential in the world’s most populous country, officials have said. The company plans to establish a local subsidiary within fiscal 2026, which ends in February 2027, and launch five directly managed stores in the western city of Mumbai within 2027. Lawson also intends to increase the number of outlets in India to about 100 in 2030 and to 10,000 by 2050. The company operates over 7,000 stores in five foreign countries, including China and Indonesia. It seeks to double the number of overseas stores to around 14,000 by as early as fiscal 2030.
