(Adnkronos) – Minority Christians have always helped stabilise and “balance” the Middle East, “sowing the seeds of peace”, Italy said on Wednesday, vowing solidarity with Christian schools in the region.
‘We will continue to stand alongside Christian schools in the Holy Land to make sure these key centres of learning, dialogue and tolerance stay open, sowing the seeds of peace and coexistence in the younger generations,” Tajani told MPs at parliamentary question time.
Tajani said he ordered the Italian Consulate in Jerusalem to take “immediate action” against restrictions imposed by Israeli authorities preventing teachers from the occupied West Bank from reaching schools in East Jerusalem. The measures, including sharply limited work permits, were disrupting lessons for hundreds of students a senior Palestinian church body reported last month.
“On my instructions, the Italian Consulate General in Jerusalem took immediate action. The issue has been resolved and the schools have already been able to resume their activities,” Tajani said.
“This is another way of cultivating those seeds of peace in the Middle East, with the aim of achieving two states living side by side in peace and security,” Tajani added.
“The government continues to determinedly pursue this political goal,” Tajajani underlined.
