(Adnkronos) – The German Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador in Berlin, announcing the “expulsion” of an embassy diplomat for espionage activities. The decision comes the day after the arrest of a German woman of Ukrainian origin suspected in the same dossier of being a Russian agent. “Germany does not tolerate espionage on its territory – especially if conducted under diplomatic cover,” the ministry stated on X. Contacted by AFP, the Russian embassy did not release any comments.
The case is part of a broader investigation that also involves two German citizens: a former staff officer, recently retired from service, and a former high-ranking defense official who left the Bundeswehr over 15 years ago. According to the Ministry of Defense, the investigations aim to establish whether the two “knowingly transmitted information to a foreign intelligence service”.
