(Adnkronos) – “We continue to call for de-escalation and dialogue, and we welcome initiatives that lead to that end. It is important to return to the political path towards stability and prosperity.” Anouar El Anouni, spokesperson for the European Commission, stated this during the daily press briefing regarding developments concerning southern Yemen. In this context, Brussels “is in favor of strengthening the UN’s role,” he added, emphasizing that the EU is “following the situation very closely,” is concerned about it, and “fully participates at the diplomatic level in dealing with actors on the ground.”
“I reiterate our position on the unity, sovereignty, and independence of Yemen, as well as its territorial integrity. The EU fully supports the Yemeni government and the presidential council. We call on all actors in Yemen to contribute positively to this sovereignty and territorial integrity, cooperating constructively in compliance with international and national law,” emphasized El Anouni.
