(Adnkronos) – The United States Southern Command (Southcom) has confirmed the seizure of the East Timor-flagged oil tanker Olina, which may be involved in the transport of sanctioned Venezuelan oil. “Once again, this morning our joint forces sent a clear message: ‘there is no safe haven for criminals’ – the Command wrote on X – In an operation conducted before dawn, marines and sailors from Joint Task Force Southern Spear, in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, departed from the USS Gerald R. Ford and captured the motor vessel/oil tanker Olina in the Caribbean Sea without incident.”
“Operation Southern Spear of the Department of War is resolute in its mission to defend our homeland by ending illicit activities and restoring security in the Western Hemisphere,” it concluded.
