(Adnkronos) – Benjamin Netanyahu will meet Donald Trump at 7 PM Italian time, at the US President’s resort, Mar-a-Lago, in Florida, as fears grow that Israel might launch new offensives against regional enemies, potentially plunging the Middle East further into instability. The Israeli prime minister left Israel yesterday for his fifth visit to the United States this year to meet Trump.
At the top of the agenda will be the Gaza ceasefire, which in October ended the devastating two-year war. Although the agreed terms for an initial phase have been largely completed, with Israeli forces having withdrawn to new positions and Hamas having released all living hostages and all but one of the dead, the implementation of the second phase of the president’s 20-point plan faces formidable challenges.
There are also fears that Israel might launch new offensives against Hezbollah in Lebanon, breaking a ceasefire established more than a year ago, or against Iran, which it accuses of having accelerated ballistic missile production in recent months.
