Japan, Britain, Italy Affirm Fighter Development Cooperation

Tokyo, Nov. 26 (Jiji Press)–Defense ministers of Japan, Britain and Italy have affirmed their close cooperation on the joint development of a next-generation fighter jet. The trilateral cooperation was confirmed in a Tuesday teleconference among Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi, British Defense Secretary John Healey and Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto. The three also agreed to work toward concluding a contract by the end of this year between the Global Combat Air Program International Government Organization, or GIGO, which manages the development project, and a joint venture primarily tasked with designing the aircraft.
