(Adnkronos) – At least 18 flights were affected today by new security threats in nine European countries, including Italy. All planes landed without incident and checks did not reveal the presence of explosives. The Guardian reported this, while authorities in several countries continue investigations to identify the origin of the threats and ascertain any orchestration.
The alerts concerned connections to and from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Hungary, Cyprus, Romania, United Kingdom and Portugal. Danish police also investigated a threat related to Copenhagen Airport, which continued to operate regularly.
In Prague, alerts were reported on at least nine flights, four arriving and five departing. Two planes bound for Sofia, one from London and the other from Brussels, were subjected to checks after the reports. In Portugal, police inspected a Ryanair flight departing from Lisbon for Rome, finding no devices or suspicious objects. In France, four other threats were recorded, while Hungary scrambled its fighters three times to escort civil flights in its airspace. These incidents add to those of previous days: at least 35 flights were diverted or subjected to checks between Tuesday and Thursday.
