(Adnkronos) – The transatlantic slave trade was a “monstrous injustice”. King Charles III declared this, opening the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda, while British Prime Minister Andy Burnham is considering the possibility of issuing official apologies for Britain’s role in slavery. “That shameful chapter of history fills my heart with horror and my soul with the deepest personal sorrow,” the sovereign stated in his speech before the leaders of the Commonwealth member countries.
