(Adnkronos) – In France, 441 people, including 61 children and adolescents, drowned over a four-month period, largely during heatwave periods. This is a “moderate” increase compared to the previous year, which was already characterized by a high number of deaths, according to a health authority report released today. In the same period of 2025, 416 people died from drowning in France, recalls Santé publique France (SpF), which deems the increase “statistically insignificant”. Furthermore, 82% of fatal drownings occurred on days when a heatwave alert was in effect, between May 1 and August 31, 2026.
