Nikkei Average Climbs in Morning on Anthropic Hopes

27 Ottobre 2026

Tokyo, Oct. 27 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s Nikkei 225 stock average briefly rose nearly 1,500 points Tuesday morning, as artificial intelligence-related names were boosted by growing expectations of an initial public offering by U.S. AI giant Anthropic. The index of 225 major issues listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s Prime section finished the morning session at 63,381.29, up 1,191.64 points, or 1.92 pct, from Monday’s closing. AI-linked issues “were bought back as they had been sold recently on concerns about AI companies’ finances,” an official at a major asset management business said. An official at a large securities house said that developments regarding Anthropic were the first positive trading cues regarding the AI sector in a while. Meanwhile, more than half of the Prime-listed issues finished the morning lower, including defensive issues, which had attracted buying until Monday, according to market sources.
