Axios, Dems prepare inquiry into Trump-Putin deal for Russian diesel

26 Ottobre 2026

(Adnkronos) – American Democrats are preparing an investigation into the agreement between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin for the resumption of Russian diesel exports. Axios reports that influential Democratic lawmakers, poised to lead key congressional committees if they win the midterm elections, have asked six Wall Street banking and financial giants and several US port authorities to preserve all documentation related to any imports of Russian fuel.

“Any import of Russian diesel into the United States raises significant legal questions and could be subject to legal action and congressional investigations,” reads the letter obtained by Axios. The signatories warn that the agreement with Moscow could violate American legislation prohibiting the import of Russian petroleum products. Among them are Democratic Senators Chris Coons, Elizabeth Warren, Ron Wyden, and Sheldon Whitehouse, who could respectively take the lead of the Foreign Relations, Banking, Finance, and Judiciary committees if the Senate is recaptured. Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Representative Greg Meeks, and Republican Senator Thom Tillis also signed the letter.

The request was addressed to Jp Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley, as well as to the authorities of the Texan ports of Houston, Beaumont, and Corpus Christi, and those of New York and New Jersey. Banks and port authorities have been asked to preserve contracts, shipping documents, ship logs, and communications with suppliers, intermediaries, and Trump administration officials, in view of possible parliamentary investigations.
