(Adnkronos) – Exactly two weeks before election day, over 10 million American voters have already cast their ballots in states where early voting has begun, meaning the option to vote in person at polling stations in advance. The highest number of early voters was recorded in California, with 1.4 million ballots already cast, followed by Georgia, over one million, and Florida, 800,000.
Starting today, it will be possible to vote early at polling stations in five other states: Hawaii, Louisiana, Missouri, Utah, and Wisconsin. There are 47 American states – practically all except Alabama, Mississippi, and New Hampshire – that offer the option of early voting at polling stations, an option often available during the weekend.
Each state follows different rules and timelines for early voting, and the period available for early voting varies from state to state, from a maximum of 46 to a minimum of 3 days, with an average of 20 days. Generally, the option to vote early at polling stations ends a few days before election day.
