(Adnkronos) – Over 200,000 people have been displaced in Yemen due to dwindling food and fuel supplies following an increase in fighting. These are data from the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC). Alison Bottomley, advocacy manager at the NRC, told Al Jazeera that Yemen was already experiencing “one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises” before the latest escalation. Now, in Taiz, the continuous shifting of front lines is isolating civilians and preventing essential supplies from entering, and some sources indicate a 50% increase in food prices in the area, she said. Flour stocks could run out within weeks, while fuel shortages threaten access to water, she warned.
Bottomley said that in some areas, NRC-supported displacement sites have doubled in size, with families arriving without basic necessities. “Everyone who is moving has left with nothing,” she said.
