CNN, conspiracies and criticism of Trump in the social media past of the new White House spokesperson

13 Ottobre 2026

(Adnkronos) – Katie Zacharia, the new White House spokesperson chosen by President Donald Trump to succeed Karoline Leavitt, allegedly spread conspiracy theories and unfounded accusations of pedophilia against important Democratic Party figures in the past, even going so far as to claim that some Hollywood elites were composed of cannibal pedophiles. This is what emerges from a CNN investigation, which examined the content published over the years on social media by the 42-year-old, many of which date back to 2022. In a series of posts on Truth Social, Zacharia had relaunched accusations traceable to the so-called ‘Pizzagate’, the false theory according to which Hillary Clinton and other Democratic figures managed a network of child sexual abuse inside a Washington pizzeria. In particular, she had repeatedly accused John Podesta, former White House chief of staff and former head of Clinton’s election campaign, of pedophilia, publicly asking why Fox News was not dedicating a report to “how much of a pedophile Podesta is”.

In another post from 2022, Zacharia wrote that “the radical left-wing elite figures in Hollywood are sick, pedophiles, and cannibals. Prove me wrong.” Shortly after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Californian had also shared conspiracy content according to which Vladimir Putin was fighting a secret network of powerful individuals, with whom Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and George Soros were associated. She had also relaunched unfounded accusations against Michelle Obama, including that the former first lady was biologically a man. Among the shared content was also a post by far-right activist Ali Alexander, according to whom “Democrats want to mask your children and rape them. This is their satanic agenda.”

The CNN investigation also brought to light several subsequently deleted messages in which Zacharia openly criticized the second Trump administration. In December 2025, she had warned that, without a change of course, the 2026 midterm elections would be “a bloodbath” for Republicans. In July of the same year, she had also relaunched accusations that the Department of Justice was covering up information on the Jeffrey Epstein case. “If the Department of Justice covers up Epstein’s pedophiles, how can we trust them to prosecute these individuals?” read the shared message. In June 2025, Zacharia had also called for the suspension of habeas corpus, the constitutional right that allows one to challenge the legality of their detention before a judge, arguing that immigration justified resorting to the clause provided by the Constitution for cases of rebellion or invasion.

When questioned by CNN about her ‘social media past’, Zacharia did not comment on the content of the messages, merely stating that she was “grateful to be able to serve President Trump as spokesperson” and assuring that she would “diligently and effectively promote his successful agenda.” The White House communications director, Steven Cheung, also avoided addressing the revelations, defending the appointment: “Katie is a fantastic and extraordinary addition to the team. She is exceptionally qualified and very brilliant.” According to CNN, while some of the posts published on X have been deleted, numerous contents disseminated on Truth Social, a platform for which Zacharia worked as a communications consultant, are still accessible.
