Nyt, Musk gives $276 million to help Gop in midterm elections

12 Ottobre 2026

(Adnkronos) – Over $276 million in just over three months to help Republicans save their Senate majority in the midterm elections. Elon Musk is once again investing heavily in politics and has confirmed himself as the largest known donor to the mid-term election campaign, according to what was revealed by the New York Times, which states that the billionaire has allocated resources to Republican groups and his super PAC. The largest share of the money stream, which began flowing in early July, $158 million, went to the Senate Leadership Fund, the main external committee supporting Republican Senate candidates. Another $76 million was paid to America Pac, the super PAC founded by Musk in 2024, which used the sum to finance a network for mobilizing conservative voters. The operation is active in seven states where decisive Senate challenges are being played out and in nearly 30 House competitions.

In detail, Musk also allocated $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, $10 million to the Lone Star Liberty Pac, in support of Republican Ken Paxton in the Texas Senate race, another $10 million to the Republican Governors Association, and $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association.

The wave of funding comes at a delicate time for the Republican Party, called upon to defend its seats in a difficult electoral context, and strengthens the Republicans’ economic advantage ahead of the vote. According to the Nyt, in fact, no Democratic billionaire is spending sums comparable to Musk’s, whose support helps strengthen the GOP’s ability to finance advertising and grassroots campaigns in the weeks leading up to the vote.

A significant part of the investment is concentrated in Texas, where America Pac has intensified activities in support of Paxton. The strategy primarily aims to convince less inclined conservative voters, through door-to-door campaigns and messages attacking Democratic candidates on issues such as transgender matters and socialism.

Musk’s new political commitment comes after his break with Donald Trump last year and the subsequent rapprochement with the president. The two have reappeared together in recent weeks, publicly exchanging praise. However, compared to the 2024 campaign, Musk is maintaining a lower profile and is giving more space to his collaborators in managing the political organization.

The figure of $276 million refers to known donations between July and September. According to sources cited by the New York Times, the billionaire also made other payments to groups that are not required to disclose the names of their funders. An commitment that, according to the newspaper, in addition to influencing the battle for control of Congress, could consolidate Musk’s role in American politics ahead of the 2028 presidential elections.
