Tokyo, Oct. 8 (Jiji Press)–Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to visit Japan in late October for talks with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Jiji Press learned Thursday. The two leaders are expected to affirm cooperation in a wide range of areas, including the economy and security, with an eye on China’s growing engagement in South Asia, people familiar with the matter said. Bangladesh faces the Bay of Bengal in the Indian Ocean and is considered a strategically important point along key sea lanes. China has strengthened ties with the South Asian country through infrastructure projects. Takaichi and Rahman, who took office in February, are expected to discuss infrastructure development in Bangladesh, including ports and roads, and agree to promote trade and investment as well as expand people-to-people exchanges.
