Tokyo, Oct. 7 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s agriculture ministry will start supporting local governments working to attract foreign tourists by unique food cultures and local specialties in an effort to revitalize local economies by expanding consumption through inbound tourism. A team of two ministry officials will be assigned to each designated area to give advice on ways to enhance food attractions, expand tourists from abroad and develop new tourism resources and improve media strategies. The support will be provided to local governments of areas that have their own food cultures, such as traditional dishes and events related to food, human resources with knowledge of the food and tourism industries, and accommodation facilities and transportation infrastructure. The project especially seeks a strong desire by local leaders to expand inbound tourism. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
