(Adnkronos) – U.S. President Donald Trump called North Korean leader Kim Jong Un “a friend” and downplayed concerns about Pyongyang’s nuclear arsenal, stating: “as long as I’m here, everything will be fine.” Trump made these remarks yesterday after a reporter asked him why North Korea could possess nuclear weapons while Iran could not. “It’s interesting. You know why? Because there was a different president, and they could have stopped it,” he said, referring to previous U.S. administrations.
“Kim Jong Un is a friend of mine. He’s a friend of mine. He likes Trump, he doesn’t like many other people. I’m pretty much the only person in the world he likes, and I like him too,” Trump said, adding that North Korea’s nuclear capability is “pretty big,” but “not like ours. You know what? As long as I’m here, it will be fine. You know why? Because he respects me and I like him.”
