(Adnkronos) – The Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, Andreas Norlen, announced that he has given Magdalena Andersson, the leader of the Social Democrats whose coalition narrowly won last Sunday’s elections, the mandate to form a government. “After today’s talks, I have decided to entrust the leader of the Social Democratic party with the task of trying to form a government,” Norlen told reporters today.
The final count data, released yesterday four days after the polls closed, confirmed the victory of the center-left bloc led by the former Social Democratic prime minister, which won 176 of the 349 seats in Parliament, against 173 for the center-right bloc of outgoing Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson who, after the official confirmation of the defeat, announced his resignation.
