Tokyo, Sept. 18 (Jiji Press)–With just six months to go before the start of the International Horticultural Expo 2027 in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, protecting visitors from the heat remains a challenge, as the event features many outdoor exhibitions and will run through late September. For this reason, measures such as enhancing nighttime events and using dry mist will be taken. GreenxExpo 2027, which will be held from March 19 to Sept. 26, 2027, for the purpose of promoting horticulture, will allow visitors to enjoy 10 million flowers and other plants. It will be the first top-level international horticultural expo to be held in Japan in 37 years, since the International Garden and Greenery Exposition held in Osaka in 1990. In addition to enhancing nighttime events, such as projection mapping, the Expo will provide shade along visitor routes. The traditional Japanese practice of “uchimizu,” or sprinkling water on the ground, is also planned as a way of cooling down that can be enjoyed by overseas visitors. Meanwhile, raising public awareness of the Expo remains an issue. Despite plans to sell 5 million tickets in advance as part of its overall sales target of 10 million, about 2.33 million tickets had been sold as of August, most of which are believed to have been purchased in bulk by companies and organizations.
