(Adnkronos) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to run for a new term in early presidential elections, thus circumventing the constitutional norm that prevents him from running again at the end of his current term. This was stated today to the Turkish media by one of his advisors. The elections “will be held on April 16, 2028, one month before the theoretical expiry of his five-year term, if the decision to call new elections is approved with the support of 360 of the 600 members of Parliament,” said Mehmet Uçum, legal advisor to the Turkish president, to several news outlets.
