(Adnkronos) – Magdalena Andersson is set to return to lead Sweden. Four days after the polls closed, the count of the legislative elections confirms the victory of the center-left bloc led by the former social democratic prime minister, who wins 176 of the 349 seats in Parliament, against 173 for the center-right bloc of outgoing prime minister Ulf Kristersson.
To form a government, however, Andersson will have to secure the support of the other three parties in the bloc. A negotiation that promises to be complex, so much so that, according to observers, talks could last weeks. The prime minister could be appointed no earlier than September 29. Barring an unexpected outcome of the negotiations, the election result puts an end to Kristersson’s hopes of remaining at the head of the government.
Also weakened by the vote are the Sweden Democrats, Kristersson’s right-wing allies, who aimed to enter the government for the first time with their own ministers. Instead, the party lost votes and seats, reducing its political weight.
