(Adnkronos) – Over 200 Israeli directors have signed a petition to express solidarity with Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, authors of the documentary ‘Naza’ awarded at the Venice Film Festival. Abraham and Szor have been challenged by Israeli government ministers, who have called for their citizenship to be revoked, and by the IDF, who have ordered an investigation into the documentary and the testimonies collected.
The petition, signed by Ari Folman, Shlomi Elkabetz, Ran Tal, and Michal Aviad, among others, states that “in recent days we have witnessed an unprecedented campaign of incitement and instigation against the film’s directors, and the distance between this and the incitement to violence and physical threats to their lives is narrowing.” The document reads that “we directors invite all those who still fight for freedom of expression to join us in expressing support and solidarity with Rachel Szor and Yuval Abraham.” The petition states that “the central role of art and journalism is to hold a mirror up to the society in which they exist, to create discourse and discussion without prejudice, even when reality is difficult.”
