(Adnkronos) – Democrats have an 11-point lead over Republicans in voting intentions for House control ahead of the November midterm elections. This is according to a Quinnipiac University poll, reported by The Hill, which states that if elections were held today, 49% of registered voters would want a Democratic victory, compared to 38% favoring maintaining a Republican majority, while 13% are undecided or did not respond. The gap has increased by four points since July, when the ratio was 48% to 41%. Furthermore, 46% of respondents consider Democrats “more in tune with the concerns of most Americans,” compared to 35% who indicate Republicans. The poll was conducted from September 3 to 6 among 970 registered voters and has a margin of error of 3.9 percentage points.
The GOP currently holds a slim majority in the House, with 218 seats compared to 214 for Democrats. At the Republican convention in Dallas, Donald Trump once again urged voters to “pretend it’s me on the ballot” and promised a “$5,000 Trump dividend” to every adult American in the event of a Republican victory in both the House and the Senate. The battle for the upper house is more uncertain: according to the latest estimates from Decision Desk HQ, Republicans have a 51% chance of retaining control, down from 60% just two months ago.
