(Adnkronos) – The Republican convention ahead of the November midterm elections, dubbed “Trump-a-palooza” by American media due to the president’s prominence, confirmed Donald Trump’s absolute centrality from the very first evening. Between 4 PM and 9 PM (10 PM and 3 AM in Italy), even before the president took the stage, dozens of speakers at the convention had mentioned his name 155 times. During his speech, Trump then cited himself another 16 times, bringing the total to 171. Only the word “America”, in its various forms, occurred more frequently.
Before Trump’s speech, the Democrat most cited by Republican speakers had been former President Joe Biden, along with his administration, with 27 mentions. He was followed by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper with 15 and Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff with eight. Seven mentions each for former Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown and Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, six for Texan James Talarico, five for California Governor Gavin Newsom, and three for New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
