(Adnkronos) – Romanian intelligence has announced that it foiled a sabotage operation on national territory coordinated by Russia. According to a note from the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), at the center of the investigation is a Russian citizen monitored since last February, suspected of having collected photographic and video material on communication centers and military bases used by NATO allies, as well as on the headquarters of national defense and security institutions and some critical infrastructures.
According to the SRI, the operation’s methods are similar to those already used in other European countries by saboteur networks coordinated by Russian entities and recall cases foiled in Romania in 2024 and 2025, when a Russian citizen had been tasked through an intermediary to film strategic military targets, including Ukrainian cargo planes. “The investigation also revealed that the Russian Federation continues to use people belonging to vulnerable categories to carry out this type of illegal activity,” the intelligence agency stated, specifying that the intervention conducted together with Romanian authorities and foreign partners prevented “an act of sabotage on national territory.”
