Nikkei Average Loses over 1,800 Points in Morning

2 Settembre 2026

Tokyo, Sept. 2 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s Nikkei 225 stock average briefly gave up more than 1,800 points Wednesday morning, as inflation concerns flared again following a fresh U.S. attack on Iran. At 9:41 a.m., the index of 225 major issues listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s Prime section stood at 64,396.05, down 1,819.29 points, or 2.75 pct, from Tuesday’s close. The U.S. Central Command announced Tuesday that it had struck sites linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, sending U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures higher. Selling pressure weighed especially heavily on stocks related to generative artificial intelligence, such as tech investor SoftBank Group, semiconductor test device maker Advantest and electronic parts supplier Murata Manufacturing. Rising long-term interest rates also spurred selling. “Trading was led by short-term players scaling back their positions to mitigate risk,” an official at a bank-affiliated securities firm said.
