(Adnkronos) – Duane Davis, a former Los Angeles gang member, has been found guilty by a Las Vegas court of the murder of Tupac Shakur, which occurred in 1996 at the height of the rapper’s popularity.
After a swift deliberation lasting a few hours and concluding the lawyers’ closing arguments, the 12 jurors delivered a unanimous guilty verdict, CNN reports.
Much of the prosecution focused on the defendant’s own words regarding the Las Vegas shooting that shocked the hip-hop world, NBC TV network reports.
The case remained unsolved for decades before Davis’s public interviews and his 2019 autobiography helped reopen the spotlight on the murder.
Davis, who now faces life imprisonment, is not accused of firing the shots that killed Shakur at the age of 25, but prosecutors described him as ‘a shot-caller,’ meaning the mastermind of the attack, having orchestrated retaliation for a brawl that occurred in a casino lobby on the evening of September 7, 1996, involving Shakur, his entourage, and Davis’s nephew.
