(Adnkronos) – US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has submitted his resignation to President Trump and will leave his post at the Pentagon in the coming days. American media reported this.
The Wall Street Journal was the first to report Driscoll’s departure.
An army official told CNN that Driscoll “spoke with the president about the current situation in the army and submitted his resignation.”
Driscoll’s resignation, known as ‘drone guy’, comes after months of tension with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
“Secretary Driscoll has been extremely effective in advancing President Trump’s ‘Make America Strong Again’ agenda, providing exceptional leadership during historic military operations, restoring emphasis on operational readiness and lethality, assisting in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, and more,” White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in a statement.
According to the New York Times, the tension between Hegseth and Driscoll was due, in part, to the former having removed four officers – two men and two women of color – from a promotion list after Driscoll had refused to do so.
The Washington Post had previously reported that Hegseth feared being fired by Trump and replaced by Driscoll.
