South Korea, Unification Church leader sentenced to 2 years in prison

(Adnkronos) – A South Korean court has sentenced the leader of the Unification Church, a secret and influential organization, to two years in prison on charges of bribing government officials, including the wife of former President Yoon Suk Yeol. This was reported by the Yonhap news agency. “The court sentenced the leader of the Unification Church to two years for corruption,” the Yonhap agency reported, referring to church leader Han Hak-ja. 

Among other charges, Han was accused of providing luxury items, including a designer bag, to former first lady Kim Keon Hee while her husband, Yoon Suk Yeol, was president, in an attempt to gain political favors.
