Nepal authorities, ‘risk of new floods, at least 800 dead and over 3,000 missing’

(Adnkronos) – Nepalese authorities are warning of the possibility of new floods, as the water level of the Bhotekoshi river continues to rise, after the devastating floods of Wednesday, August 26. Residents of the affected districts have been asked to pay particular attention. In this regard, on Sunday, August 30, flood warning notices were sent to mobile phones, while rescue teams continued to work to clear one of the country’s main highways. 

The catastrophic floods – authorities report – have caused the death of at least 800 people and over 3,000 missing between Nepal and Tibet. In the Dhading district, one of the hardest-hit areas, residents have begun to return to their devastated homes or what is left of them. Meanwhile, Malaysia has pledged $1 million in aid and will send a specialized search and rescue team for emergencies to assist in relief operations.
