Japan, record budget of 48 bln euros requested for Defense, focus on AI

(Adnkronos) – The Japanese Ministry of Defense has requested a record budget of 8.9 trillion yen for next year, equivalent to approximately 48 billion euros, as Tokyo also focuses on artificial intelligence to accelerate decision-making processes amid growing tensions in the region.  

According to media reports, the final defense budget could, however, reach 10 trillion yen, approximately 54 billion euros. Japan is committed to a broad strengthening of its military capabilities, also in light of growing tensions with neighboring countries such as China, North Korea, and Russia.
