Tokyo, Aug. 27 (Jiji Press)–The Japanese government highlighted the need to closely monitor the impact of recent natural disasters in a monthly report released on Thursday, while keeping its basic economic assessment unchanged. “The Japanese economy is recovering at a moderate pace, while attention should be given to the effects caused from the situation in the Middle East and natural disasters,” the Cabinet Office said in its August report. The reference to natural disasters was added in the wake of a powerful earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture, southwestern Japan, on July 28 and a downpour in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, on Aug. 13.
