(Adnkronos) – The toll from the car hitting pedestrians in Caen, northern France, has risen to two dead and about ten injured. Police sources report that a 26-year-old Russian citizen was arrested, who allegedly committed the act voluntarily after a brawl. Therefore, a terrorist motive is currently ruled out.
Yesterday evening, “a car deliberately hit pedestrians who were in the street in front of the train station,” declared the prefect of the Calvados department, David Clavière, upon arriving at the scene. The 26-year-old, who had reportedly fled, was arrested in Ouistreham, about 20 kilometers from the scene of the incident. “Born in Russia,” he “is not known to intelligence services,” but is known to the police “only for traffic offenses,” the prefect stated, explaining that an investigation has been opened and surveillance camera footage is being examined.
